Freshers need to be sensitized about HIV/AIDS.

By James Mubi

“I’m 23 years-old, I acquired HIV/Aids when I had just joined campus, i lost interests in studies and started sleeping a round with men” laments Sarah-(not real name) a second year student.

Nkumba is so far the only University with HIV/AIDS Institutional policy since 2003. The University could no longer bury its head in the sand. Those who did and going to do this course unit will remember Madam Kyeyune’s phrase that you are either affected or inffected. The varsity was experiencing challenges from the staff, students, non teaching staff, parents, guardians and the community.

Some parents could die untimely moreover they are the bread winners, losing manpower, student concentration was reducing increasingly, absenteeism, stigma, denial, a mong other social-economic, religious, cultural aspects of HIV/AIDS prompted Nkumba to come out with a policy. But should we continue lamenting helplessly a big no, the first step is to know your HIV/AIDS status so whenever there is such activity at Guild gardens please do not hesitate or feel ashamed.

For ladies staying in Nabagereka, please your matron madam Nsereko and the deputy Guild speaker Khalayi Catherine are people you can consult and they are at your disposal, remember when you share out a feeling, you get a feeling of relief.

A source speaking on condition of anonymity, told Nkumba Times that due to the redundancy period that senior six leavers undergo, girls get more and more pregnant, this is what happened last semester, when Godfrey Ateu broke the story about campus chics particularly freshers getting pregnant, girls ran riot because it was a bitter pill for them to swallow.
